Dehumidifiers can be used with both serious and less damaging floods to help speed up the drying process. Dehumidifiers suck moisture out of the air including moisture trapped in walls, furniture or deep within the floor. If you have a hardwood floor it is highly recommended that you use a dehumidifier in your drying process.

Before you get started

Begin by absorbing as much water as possible prior to using floor drying equipment using dry towels. Once your towels no longer absorb water go over the carpet using a wet-dry vacuum machine to further absorb surface moisture.

Once finished with the wet-dry vacuum machine, carry out test by walking on the carpet. If there is still a lot of water within the carpet (you hear water sounds or the water is bubbling under your feet) you know more advanced drying equipment will be required.

At this stage you will have two choices; one for less serious flooding and one for more serious flooding.

First Choice - Less Serious Flooding

More suitable for instances where the lower levels of your carpet is damp, however not completely saturated.

If your carpet is not completely soaked, you should use one or several Air Blowers to blow air across the surface of your wet carpet.

All that will be required is to install the fans onto the surface of your carpet and allow them to run. This may take several hours or several days. If you’re using several fans, ensure that you efficiently arrange the fans to ensure maximum air flows across the surface of your carpet.

It may also be helpful to ventilate the area by opening windows and doors as much as possible to speed up the drying time, assuming the outside air is less humid compared to the inside air.

Dehumidifiers can also be helpful to remove moisture from the air, as well as removing moisture trapped in walls, furniture, or within your flooring.

Second Choice - More Serious Flooding

If you have more serious flooding, to assist ventilation, in may be necessary to lift a section of carpet from one corner of the room. Install a blower in the area where the carpet has been removed and switch it on so that the air is blown beneath the carpet.

Detaching your carpet from the underlay below will also assist the air to move across the affected areas, and speed up the drying time; again, this may take several hours or several days.

Dehumidifiers can also be helpful to remove moisture from the air, as well as removing moisture trapped in walls, furniture or within your flooring.

Once dried, you can use a carpet adhesive to replace the carpet, or call All Carpets on 1300 558 509 to help with reinstallation across all areas
